Legal Assistant/ Entry-Level Paralegal

Overview of the Position:

The right person for our Legal Assistant/Paralegal role will have at least 2-3 years of legal assistant experience, be passionate about the legal field, and be a quick and eager learner who is looking for a long-term position with a close-knit team.  Experience with legal document formatting and production, legal research, client file management, and any or all of the above practice areas preferred.  High level of experience with Windows OS, Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat Pro required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist 3-4 attorneys with client, case, matter, and project management, including drafting and sending engagement and conflict waiver letters, managing document organization of client file in both physical and electronic form, managing/docketing deadlines, and anything else to help the attorneys keep all files at the firm moving forward smoothly.

  • Assist with the preparation, formatting, and proofreading of correspondence, memos, pleadings, research outlines, and meeting minutes.

  • Produce, edit and format legal documents such as transactional agreements, pleadings, briefs, opinions, complaints, orders, and subpoenas; compose routine letters and memoranda.

  • Prepare/maintain minute books, pleading logs, discovery logs, trial notebooks, closing binders, and entity binders.

  • Prepare/format corporate documents and effect filing with offices of the Secretary of State

  • Perform UCC searches and filings.

  • Coordinate with title companies, gather TRIOs, file deeds, etc., on matters dealing with real estate.

  • Complete basic clerical tasks, including data entry; photocopy/scan/fax; organize firm library books.

  • Perform any other task required to assist the law firm function effectively.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 2-3 year(s) experience as a legal assistant; 5+ years’ experience preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution preferred.

  • High level of experience in Windows OS, Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat Pro required.

  • Strong sense of ownership.

  • Flexibility and ability to balance multiple tasks and competing priorities.

  • Works well under pressure and high level of attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate integrity, strong client-relationship skills, the ability to use judgment, tact, discretion, and keep information confidential.
